BILBAO, Spain (August 23, 2021) — Spanish health insurer DKV has integrated artificial intelligence from Legit.Health into its mobile application, giving customers a tool to screen skin lesions for potential cancer during the summer beach season.

The partnership addresses growing concern about skin cancer rates in Spain. The Spanish Association Against Cancer reported 22,229 new cases of skin cancer in the country in 2020. Research shows that a one-month delay in diagnosis can reduce patient life expectancy by 15 percent.

DKV customers can now photograph suspicious moles or skin lesions using the company's "Quiero cuidarme Mas" mobile app. Legit.Health's algorithms analyze the images within two to three seconds and achieve 94 percent accuracy in identifying potential problems, according to the company.

The system detects 232 skin pathologies, with particular focus on nine conditions including melanoma and psoriasis. Users who receive concerning results can immediately request a virtual consultation with a DKV dermatologist through the same app.

"This tool does not replace the doctor," said Andy Aguilar, founder and chief executive of Legit.Health. "It functions as a support mechanism for the detection and monitoring of skin diseases."

DKV officials said the initiative aims to overcome patient reluctance to seek dermatological consultations, which often leads to delayed diagnoses. The mobile screening tool lowers the barrier to early detection by meeting patients where they already are during summer months.

DKV serves approximately 2 million customers across Spain and employs nearly 2,000 people. The insurer has expanded its telemedicine offerings as part of a broader digital health strategy.
