Asturias integrates AI into its healthcare system to assist with dermatological diagnosis and reduce waiting times

Oviedo (Asturias), January 2026 – The Health Service of the Principality of Asturias has incorporated a clinical artificial intelligence tool into its network of health centers to improve early detection of skin diseases and expedite the referral of the most serious cases. The objective is to reduce healthcare pressure in dermatology and optimize the use of healthcare resources from Primary Care.
The implementation project of the technology developed by Legit.Health, driven by Telefónica Tech and with the collaboration of Idonia as AI orchestrator, provides family doctors with an artificial intelligence solution capable of analyzing clinical images and offering an objective assessment of the severity of each case in real time.
Thanks to this tool, Primary Care professionals can more precisely prioritize urgent referrals, such as possible skin cancer cases, and manage mild or moderate pathologies in consultation without needing to refer them to a specialist. The implementation thus enables more efficient management of more than 320 dermatological pathologies, contributing to decongesting hospital consultations and reducing waiting times for patients who truly need it.
