Asturias Public Health Service Taps Legit.Health's AI to Speed Up Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Reduce Dermatology Wait Times

OVIEDO, Spain. October 18, 2025 - The Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA) today announced a landmark initiative to integrate Legit.Health's artificial intelligence (AI) platform into its primary care network. The project, coordinated by Telefónica Tech, will equip general practitioners with advanced AI-powered tools to enhance diagnostic accuracy for dermatological conditions, including psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, hidradenitis and skin cancer, aiming to drastically reduce patient wait times and improve early detection rates.
This strategic deployment will empower primary care clinicians across Asturias to make faster, more informed decisions at the point of care. By leveraging Legit.Health's CE-marked AI technology, which provides objective severity assessments and diagnostic support, SESPA aims to streamline the referral process, ensuring that specialists can focus on the most critical cases. This is expected to alleviate the current backlog for dermatology appointments and lead to better patient outcomes.

Telefónica Tech, serving as the integration partner, is overseeing the seamless incorporation of the Legit.Health AI technology into SESPA's existing digital infrastructure. The company will ensure secure data handling, provide comprehensive training for healthcare professionals, and manage the system's ongoing maintenance and optimization.

Legit.Health's platform utilizes advanced deep learning algorithms to analyze clinical images of skin conditions, offering diagnostic support for hundreds of pathologies and automatically generating severity scores for diseases like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The system is designed to augment clinical judgment, providing a data-driven second opinion that enhances the clinician's expertise.
The integration will be rolled out in phases, beginning with a pilot in select primary care centers, followed by a region-wide deployment.
